What is IBPS PO 2026?
The IBPS PO (Probationary Officer) exam, officially known as Common Recruitment Process for Probationary Officers (CRP PO), is conducted annually by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) to recruit Probationary Officers for 11 public sector banks across India.
A Probationary Officer is the starting management-level position in a public sector bank. After a 2-year probation period, POs are confirmed as Officers in Junior Management Grade Scale-I (JMGS-I) — the gateway to a lifelong banking career with excellent growth prospects.
IBPS PO is one of India's most applied-for banking exams, with over 10–15 lakh applicants every cycle. It is open to graduates of any discipline — making it one of the most accessible high-salaried government careers in the country.

Expert Tips to Crack IBPS PO 2026
Prelims is a filter — do not waste time on it. Aim for 65–70 correct in 80 questions (instead of attempting all 80). Speed matters more than completeness in Prelims.
Mains is where the real battle is. The Descriptive Test carries 25 marks — candidates who prepare it seriously gain a huge edge over those who ignore it.
General/Economy/Banking Awareness is the most differentiating section in Mains. Maintain a 'Banking Diary' — note down every RBI circular, policy change, and scheme launch you read.
Reasoning & Computer Aptitude in Mains (60 marks) allows 60 minutes. That's 1 minute per mark — very tight. Practice Mains Reasoning puzzles under a 60-minute timer from Month 2 onwards.
For the Descriptive Paper, practice writing on topics like banking reforms, financial inclusion, digital payments, climate change. Use simple English with good structure — intro, body, conclusion.
Choose your preferred bank state wisely. IBPS allots banks based on preference + state domicile. Some states have significantly lower cut-offs. Research state-wise Mains cut-offs before form filling.
Consistency beats intensity. 3 focused hours daily for 6 months beats a last-minute 14-hour cramming sprint. Build your schedule around daily mock tests from Month 3 onwards.
Use Telegram channels (Adda247, Oliveboard, Gradeup) for free daily current affairs PDFs. Reading one current affairs capsule daily for 6 months is more effective than bulk-reading just before the exam.
